In light of the last game I am going to implore everyone to please keep it civil. I am not going to play the perspective card or anything but all I ask is a fair amount of self control and civility in the comments section during a game.
Hopefully the Tar Heels won’t give anyone a reason to be pissed tonight but as noted in the preview, I don’t have much of a read on this one.
In other action you have Duke playing Wake Forest at 7:00 PM on ESPN and NC State taking on Boston College at 8:00 PM on the ACC Network. According to the “UNC plays the next game so we won’t see the first 10 minutes of it” rule, Duke-Wake Forest should be a triple OT game which seems impossible but every time UNC follows any game, weird crap happens.
Comments if you have ‘em.
Strickland shouldn’t have pulled up!
Why does Strickland lean back on his jumpers? That would explain his issues with threes.
No foul????
that could be bad. sigh.
And down goes out best defender…..crapola……
Keep pushing!!!!
that was a really nice pull up by Barnes.
Wonder if Roy showed them this site at half…..
nice walk as ESPN comes back to the replay.
Man I hope Strick is okay or we are in deep trouble.
Amazing what effort will do for you.
They listened to me. ) Roy put Barnes on Hudson.
the Z man. WORKING.
This is UNC basketball…..create offense from your defense…..
Well, better late than never.
Good defense by Bullock….
Hairston better stick his man.
This is an effort-based comeback. Yep, I went there.
Why is Hairston so freaking cold all of a sudden???
i thought you were supposed to kick out your leg. huh.
Henson. No. no more jumpers.just no.
Barnes is heating up….
i wouldnt call it commanding, Saunders.
bleah. all i feel is bad for Dexter.
Must…..beat…..State…..on the 26th.
Apathetic again….
even WITHIN a game that they showed less than maximum effort, they get a lead, and get complacent and sloppy.
disappointing.
Stop. Okay just stop. I am sick of it. You guys can be placated for 10 seconds. Geez.
I’m glad that we’ll walk out of this with a win, but it’s time to show some killer instinct. Impose your will and kick them when they’re down. Basketball speaking, of course.
Barnesbot respectfully disagrees with that call.
Consider myself placated.
Wow Harrison, 20+ in the second half
Sorry about the outburst but they’re not perfect guys. There will be lapses. This team played killer basketball in the second half.
50 points in the second and y’all are talking effort. Starting the half down 8
So….anyone else nervous about White being the primary backup to Marshall if Dex is out long term?
i sense a lack of placation from Roy.
that lineup is long!!!
He is entitled to not be placated. We are on the other hand could stand to not nitpick so much.
Very nice second half, and it’s great to see Barnes back. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I should have from thinking about Strickland. Man I hope it’s just a strain or hyperextension, something like that. It didn’t look good.
THF predicted the exact score…well done!
The second half was final four/NC basketball…period. Keep practicing them hard Roy. BTW, is it me or did the hard practices make Marshall faster?
1. Excellent second half - regardless of how much Bilas wanted to push the “foot off the pedal” angle.
2. Based on last season and this game’s second half - Barnes is clearly the player who needs to take over when the situation calls for it.
3. I hope I never have to sit through a John Saunders called game again.
4. I hope Dex’s injury isn’t serious. We’ll need him hounding Rivers or Dawkins in a few weeks.
Not a Dr. but knee buckling and immediate pain reaction does not indicate a positive outcome…
My prayers are with Strickland…
OK, so what have we found out?
1. When they get pushed around and take it, they’re awful.
2. When they get aggressive, particularly on defense, they’re exceptional.
3. Not to have Zeller on the Naismith list is insane.
4. Whatever Roy said at halftime needs to be bottled and drunk by this team before every single game.
5. Not that it matters to anyone else, but I personally feel happier right now than I have since Saturday.
Drinks for the house!
^^^Same here, regarding Saunders. I’m usually pretty tolerant of anchors as long as their is a good color commentator, but that was painful. Just hearing Bilas do an impression of Raftery made me feel better.
barnesbot just needs to be in takeover mode every game it seemed like he could get anything he wanted at will in the second half. every drive to the basket resulted in a foul or a layup/dunk no one can stay in front of him
THF -
Don’t worry a bit about outbursts. You’re an amazingly tolerant and evenhanded blog owner.
Honestly, hard to ask for more. A little tight offensively in first half- but that was to be expected. VT (Green and Hudson in particular) made some loopy shots in 1st half.
Extra props to Barnes intensity on Defensive End all the way to the end.
Hope Dex is okay. Love that kid!
hampdensydneylax22.
Well for one, Roger Ayers was in the paint on a few of those drives UNC had in the first half when we received quite a bit of contact with no foul.
The other official was the one who blew the whistle and sent us to the line. Ayers wouldn’t have called those.
And I am anxious to hear what the result of Strickland’s knee will be.
Based on how the knee injury looked, I’d say Bullock and Hairston better get ready to play some D.
No doubt VPI came out with a great sense of urgency, and UNC didn’t match it. They also appeared to be a tad nervous, like they were still trying to work some things out. But after everything settled down, VPI lost it edge and energy, and the Heels really picked it up, their confidence and execution came back quickly and they just played basketball. Oh yeah, and there was that Barnes guy……..he’s pretty good.
“4. Whatever Roy said at halftime needs to be bottled and drunk by this team before every single game.”
he told them to quit feeling sorry for themselves, and to have confidence.
hate to single anyone out because the collective defensive effort was so good in the 2nd half, but Reggie played his a** off!! THAT type of defensive/rebounding effort makes all the difference for this team. Sky is the limit if they can play defense like that consistently. Jeebus-it’s like you can feel the electricity when they amp it up-why oh why can’t they maintain that??
congrats to Sylvia Hatchell on 600 Tar Heel wins.
I tend to agree at rath, THF. Over at Illiniloyalty, I was scolded because in my post about Illinois’ win over Ohio State, I mentioned I said that in matchup of two potential lottery picks Meyers Leonard held his own against Jared Sullinger. The reason for the scolding I was supposed to make all posts referencing Leonard’s draft status on another thread even though it was a short blurb in a 15 line post. )
The key moment was the switch of Barnes onto Hudson. Barnes stuck to him and made sure he had a hand in Hudson’s face. Hudson didn’t have a single point in the second half.
I’d have preferred we lost and kept Dex. He’s my favorite player on the team.
So sad
The physical exam for ACL is very easy.
If he had ACL, they would not have let him walk on it. Would cause much more injury. There wasn’t the type of hyper extension typical for ACL. Still could be serious as knee gave way and he was twisting it.
Just hope for the best!
^^ @AZACCFan
That isn’t true at all re: walking on an ACL. Most people who tear their ACL walk on their own power (or leaning on someone). Once you’ve torn your ACL (and likely your MCL along with it), there isn’t much more damage you can do.
I should know. I did my left ACL/MCL/Meniscus at Ram’s Head gym 2-3 years ago. Walked right over to the med. center haha.
Wow. Lots of experts in this thread.
“Strickland shouldn’t have pulled up!”

Who are you trying to impress with posting this nonsense?
he’s not a doctor, but he did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.
